I've got a MacBook, when I boot it up it just sits there at the splash screen loading for a long time. Then it finally gets to the desktop, but I can't see anything but the background and the cursor. I was told by apple to reload the OS, I did that several times. Did not help, same results. I'm assuming it's hardware related now, just trying to figure out what hardware it could be. Any ideas?

Try loading linux from a livecd - and see if you can get any OS to boot. If no OS will boot then it probably is a hardware problem.
