Hi,

The green light on my battery won't come on at all. I thought maybe the battery was dead, so my husband went to the apple store and bought a new battery. It runs with the new battery, but the green light still won't come on. The computer detects the battery charger and it indicates that it is attached, but it isn't charging the battery at all. I have a feeling that the charger is busted and the computer will stop running once the new battery runs out of charge as well.

Any idea what's wrong and what I should do?

Thanks!

Welcome to the Mac Forums.

Is your computer still under warranty or Apple care?

You might need a new MagSafe charger adapter. Buying a new battery is expensive - perhaps your husband can take it back for a refund although I'm not sure Apple gives refunds for consumables. Have him pickup a new MagSafe Charger at Best Buy (they allow returns). If it works, then you know the old one was defective, if not, that means other problems.

1) I recently had that problem -- except it wasn't charging AT ALL. Replacing the MagSafe adapter seemed to fix the problem -- until I was getting it again. Popping the battery out and back in usually helps. (I DID try the old adapter after I discovered this trick, but nope -- the old adapter is dead, period.)

2) Apple just released an alleged firmware fix for this that's especially supposed to solve problems with the newer MagSafe adapters used with the 2007 and 2008 MacBooks. I installed the fix yesterday, but I had the problem again today, requiring me to pop the battery out and then back in, so...I dunno.
