Hello, I am planning on buying a powerbook, leaning towards the 12'. I have a couple questions before I buy it.
1.) How exactly does the screen expansion thing work, where you can attach another monitor.
2.) Is the 15' too big for carrying to class at school, in your opinion?

Both the 12 and 15 inch have DVI ports on them. All you need to do id plug it into the monitor and OS X will do the rest for you.

I would get a 15" myself. You get better resolution, a wide screen and a better video card. Its not to big. I take mine all over the place. It will fit in a normal back pack with room to spare.

you hook up your other monitor or tv. place your power book next to it and you can tell it which way you want your screen extended. say if you want it to the left. when you move the mouse from your PW to the left side of your powerbook when the mouse gets to the point it normally stops it will go to the external monitor. you can drag windows ext over to that or you can play a dvd on the other monitor and use your PB monitor like normal. if you live close to an apple store, i know in the store where i live they have the screen expansion on display.

I am a student and i like the size of the 15inch yes its big but i aint weak and i can carry it. i find that most kids have 15inch laptops. one of the main reasons i got the 15inch was its widescreen and most new laptops are widescreeen formats. and another reason was the pci card slot in the 15inch i like to keep my picture card reader in it vs the 12inch having to carry another part around. if you dont mind carrying around one more pound then i would get the 15inch to me its a computer that wont be outdated for a long time.

No. Most people I see have 14-15 inch tops at school. It will be fine. Just get a good carrying case for it. Check out www.booqbags.com. They are excellent cases.

does the screen expansion work with non-dvi monitors? i have a samsung 912n.

also, does anyone recommend a good backpack that has alot of room for books and good laptop storage? I looked at that link above and its hard to tell.

Dont listen to people crap, the PPC macs will be with us for a long time to come. The universal bonaries will make sure of that. And do you seriously think all the software vendors out there will just write off all the MILLIONS of PPC mac users in a year and a half when all the new system come out? Please, get real.
