So I'm looking for the best portable external hard drive for my new MacBook Pro. I'm looking to mainly store my music library. I seem to be having issues rights privileges with my current Seagate 320 GB portable external hard drive. Granted, I had a pc before so perhaps there's an issue there. But I want to buy a new drive that will allow me to change the info on all my mp3s and documents. I'd like suggestions on what drives work effortlessly with MacBook Pro and won't suffer from delays.

Other World Computing sells some very good external hard drives. I like their "Mercury on the go Pro" series. A bit more expensive than other drives but well worth the extra cost for the speed and quality. The also stock other drives so shop around. They're Mac specialists and well liked by most folks who own Mac machines.

I like simple tech. I have a smaller oner, 40GB but they make some that are larger now and drop proof from up to 9 feet.

SimpleTech by Hitachi - External Storage, Online Backup and more.

OS X 10.6.4
2GB RAM
2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo

I've been reading that FireWire is the way to go as far as speed and reduced stress on your laptop are concerned. I read on another message board that these external hard drives are the best for macbook pros: FireWire 400, FireWire 800, USB 2.0, eSATA External Hard Drive Storage for Apple Mac and PCs - Desktop, Rack, and Portable Models.

The link you provided is the same as I recommended to you in my post. The OWC Mercury on the go Pro series has connections for USB, FW400 and FW800, so yes, those are the best.
