My iBook is running panther, yes that still exists sadly, however I do have a copy of Tiger that I want to install. The problem is it needs a DVD drive to install and iBooks only have a CD. Should I use a firewire? How would I do this?

Any other ideas?

Yes you could use firewire using a 2nd Macintosh in "Target Disk Mode":
