My 3 year old Macbook is sick! It would not shut down. The password display was on the screen, but mac would not accept mouse or kbd input. Holding down power button did nothing. Removed battery to power down, but it will not boot now. Battery shows 4 out of 5 leds lit. Battery was very warm before freeze. Will not power up with battery in or out. Light on charger does not lite with battery in or out. Apple tech says send to Apple with $300 and they will tell me how much to fix!

I assume you are not a native English speaker. It sounds like a pretty serious problem but $300 dollars is a lot of money. I wouldn't send it to them just so they can send you a higher bill to fix it later. I would take it an authorized apple repair centre most of them offer free estimates on repairs.
