I'm looking at purchasing a mac book pro. I'm a DJ and so my main usage will be running serato itch. In the future, I'll possibly be looking to run ableton live 8 in conjunction with itch/scratch live.

Could someone explain to me the key differences between the core duo and the i5? The two mac book pros that are in my price range are the core duo 2.66Ghz and the i5 2.4Ghz. Should I be looking to save and spend a little more based on my requirements?

Finally could someone offer me advice on RAM, should I upgrade to 8Gb or will 4Gb be enough?

Thanks

Welcome to Mac Forums.
First off, I'll give you this link to look at.

As for RAM, 4 is plenty, but if you really feel that you need to bump it up at a later date, then it is cheaper for you do do it yourself.

I have the 2.4Ghz i5 and it's a rip roarer.

Just to add, the 2.4 GHz i5 is equivalent to a 3.03Ghz Core 2 Duo

Thanks for that, looks like I'll be getting the 2.4 i5!

Out of iterest if you could compare the 2.53ghz i5 to a core duo what sort of speed would you be looking at?
