Where did my hard drive go?

Just got a new macbook pro and I am new to using Macs. I was trying to move my hard drive icon from the finder folder to my desktop... then I tired to move it POOFed and disappeared. I cant find it anywhere now! Where did it go?

The icon that you were trying to move isn't actually the hard drive it's an alias (shortcut). To put your hard drive on the desktop do the following:
1. While in the Finder click on the word Finder in the upper left of the window and choose Preferences.
2. When the preferences options appear choose the "General" tab.
3. Make sure the items you want on the Desktop are checked.

If you want the hard drive back in the Finder window that is also easy. Once the hard drive is on the Desktop open a Finder window and drag the hard drive into the sidebar where it was.
