I recently updated my ibook G4 to leopard from Tiger. I went to software update to get the newest upgrades for my laptop. Then I got all of the new updates and installed the combination upgrade or something like that to get to 10.5.8. But i only have Java 5. How can I get Java 6?

If anyone can give me an answer please do. Thanks!

If your system is up to date it is there, just not showing. Have a look at this link on activating Java 6:-

As Harry has stated, it simply sounds like Java 6 is not set as the default Java version. Try using Java Preferences to change this.

I've looked into this, but it doesn't show java 6 as in the list it only shows java 5 and 1.4.2. I don't understand why it isn't showing 6.

And post once only eh?

Did you go into Java 5 Preferences as suggested? If not there try Pacifist to install from your Leopard disc.

It is answered in the link and what do you need Java 6 for precisely as there is a lot of debate on whether or not Apple made it part of Leopard?

In Leopard, Java 6 is 64-bit only. That means
1. You can't use it for browser applets (since Safari and all other browsers in Leopard, are 32-bit)
2. You can't use it at all on G4 or Core Duo systems (since those processors are 32-bit)

In practice, this makes Java 6 pretty useless in Leopard for everyone except people who run servers, and Java programmers.
