I have an aging 15 inch MBP released at around 2006 or so. I have updgraded the RAM and would like to upgrade the internal hard drive to a larger and faster one, I currently have a 120GB @ 5400 RPM. I have found this one and it seems just what I need. I would like to know if this is fully compatible with my laptop. All I know is that I need it to be a SATA drive and be able to fit inside the case, other than that I dont really know much. It might be a silly question but all these HD connections are standard correct? This model should fit my laptop?
Thanks again guys EDIT: I am dual booting on my laptop so that is why I need a larger drive, I also have an external 500GB drive that I backup to, is the increase in speed any better than what I currently have? Last edited by cad2blender; 07-03-2010 at 08:44 PM. |

A little reading goes a long way. To answer your question though, yes it will fit and work.

Just remember that since a 7200 rpm drives runs faster it will also, as a consequence, generate more heat. Hardware manufacturers take this into consideration because tolerances inside of cramped laptop quarters make every extra degree in temp more critical. However, you shouldn't have an issue. I wouldn't expect to see a huge difference in speed though unlike moving from platter drives to solid state. |

+1 for the Hitachi Travelstar 7200 RPM 500GB. I installed it in my MBP and noticed a nice bump in performance. I would consider a 500GB drive over a 320GB. The difference in cost is only a few dollars.
