Hey Forum,

So, brand new 13in MBP...got the base version with the 250G HDD and 2.4GHz. I replaced the HDD with a WD scorpio blue 500 (if you google WD500BEVT and mac issues...) and soon learned why this was not a good idea. I searched the forums here and elsewhere and found there are issues with the power savings of the HDD and parking the heads, etc, etc. It was recommended to use this HDAPM file which I tried and it "solves" the issue but now, the HDD never sleeps. When I dont use the program I get the spinning beach ball for 2 seconds when trying to navigate forlders, use Virtual DJ or serato and its just not tollerable. My question is, does anyone know of the "true" OEM 500 gig HDD that I can use. I know Mac uses a lot of Hitachi and would rather stick this route. My sentiment is, I use this pro for DJing and cannot have hiccups especially when changing songs last minute, etc and feel that if there is a "certified" HDD that has no issues with mac os or my pro specifically that I would rather go this route.

I do not need the performance of a 7200, a 5400 is perfect. I found the below product at macmall but am hesitant to spend the coin just to find it has the same issue:

MacMall | Hitachi GST Travelstar HD20500 IDK/5K - 500GB 2.5" SATA 5400 RPM - Internal Drive Kit 0S00156

so, if anyone has any recommendations or even the model that apple uses as OEM for the 15in i5 units...that would be great.

Regards,
Steve

I have the same Hitachi Travelstar 500 GB at 7200 rpm for about 4 months now. No problem of any kind so far.
