I've just been delivered my new macbook pro and while I'm already having a great time with it, one thing slightly confuses me; the lack of a case out of the box. Any other laptop I've seen has come with a case as standard and I'm wondering if I need to buy a separate case? Are Macbooks really that well designed that they won't get scratched or damaged by impacts if carried just "naked" in a satchel? What do you guys do when transporting your notebooks?

Cheers

To be honest, not many manufacturers ship with any sort of case anymore. Also, the ones that did in the past I never liked anyway!

I personally use an Incase laptop bag for my 13". They have them for all models too and run about $40. They will get scratched, so you should have something to protect it.

I don't know why you were expecting a free carry case with your new MBP? I've purchased many notebook computers in the past and none ever came with a carry case. Check on line for a carry case or your local Apple store. And yes, the outside finish (aluminum) can get scratched and dented so be careful lugging it around.

Regards.

Come to think of it, i've only asked two people and they both got cases with theirs. Didn't realise it was normal not to get a case. Fair enough, I'll be off to buy one then. Cheers for the clearing that up fellas.

Depending on how sensitive you are about scratches/dings on your new Mac Book Pro...you may want more than a carrying case for it...you might want a protective sleeve or hard case.

The housing of the aluminum MacBooks & MacBook Pros really is prone to getting marred up.

I sell laptops for a living. None of them come with a free carrying case.
