Hello,

Placed an order for a 17" Core i7 MBP with Glossy HR Screen, and 8 GB of Memory. The problem is I won't see it delivered until May. That's 2 weeks of waiting. The Apple Store did have a Core i7 w/anti-glare, but no memory kit. Ordering online was my only choice as the Apple Store did not have what I wanted.

If patience is a virtue, then Doctors are the only ones with patience. It will be nice to add a second Mac to the growing family.

I'm assuming you wanted the model with the glossy screen rather than the anti-glare? You mentioned the memory kit, but it's actually less expensive to order the extra memory from a supplier like OWC rather than buy direct from Apple.

Regards.

Hello,

Yes, the glossy screen was ordered. I don't have issues with the GS. 8GB Memory Upgrade from Apple was only $400. OWC was $375 as well as newegg, so for $25 more, I don't have to install the memory myself.

OK, understand. Lots of folks have mentioned they liked the anti-glare screens better. But I'm with you on that - I prefer the glossy also. As for the memory kit, I'm glad to see Apple's prices on memory are becoming more competitive with other resellers.

Regards.

Hello,

Yes, it was refreshing that Apple decided to become competitive on Memory Upgrades with other retailers. However, you have to upgrade when you CTO, otherwise the upgrade is $600.

The associate at the Apple Store even went out of his way to find 2 4GB Sticks for me on the internet. One retailer was charging $500. So, it was a fair deal.

You seem to forget that the stock MBP comes with 4GB of memory at a cost of $128. So if you bought the stock and purchased 8GB of memory for $375, you can sell the original 4GB of memory on Ebay for maybe $115. So total cost of 8GB memory is actually less than the $400 you paid apple. Plus the wait......

I agree that waiting is the hardest part. My 15" MBP is supposed to arrive between Apr 28 and May 4. I am impatiently waiting for the shipping confirmation email, that I may see as soon as Friday.

I'm a Mac Noob -- any advice welcome but please be gentle.

Yes, I did consider what you suggested. However, I have no ePay account, and for me personally, it was not worth the hassle. I paid for the convenience of not having to deal with the installation and selling of memory. One and Done!

Well, sometimes things are not what they seem. Here is tracking info:

Code:
Date/Time Activity Location

Apr 21, 2010 5:25 AM Shipment information sent to FedEx
Apr 21, 2010 6:45 PM Picked up SHANGHAI CN
Apr 21, 2010 6:46 PM Left FedEx origin facility SHANGHAI CN
I should have the MBP by Friday April 23. But because the package missed FedEx cutoff, Monday April 26, it will be in my hands. I will use Flight Tracker to keep an eye on her. I am hoping the plane lands at ANC, then to Memphis, TN. The volcanic ash has everything screwed up.

Well, for my troubles, I also ordered a Moshi Keyboard cover, and a Thule Backpack. I am good 2 go!

Convinced the wife to go Mac, as her 5+ year old HP laptop is ready to explode and she doesn't use anything that ties her to Windows. 500 GB i5 w/anti-glare screen ordered today.

Hello,

Yes, it was torture. I even tracked the FedEx flight out of PVG to ANC, ANC to IND, IND to PHL, then my home. This MBP has been places I may never see in person.

Well worth the wait. 6 days from order to delivery for CTO. There are some processor and RAM supply issues, so delays are expected.

The battery is amazing. Just light web browsing, low backlight, and some application use and good battery life is possible. The Moshi Keyboard cover is nice, doesn't interfere with typing. The MBP fits in the Thule Backpack securely. There is a light vibration on the Palm Rest. It massages your hands as you type. Intentional?
