I keep getting that "You need to restart" error at startup. I've tried the standard pram and smc restart...nothing. I've tried booting it from the disk, but it just spits the disk out and I get the same error. I've tried running a hardware test, but that gave me nothing. I've tried the Apple+S method, but once I get to the black screen, i can't type anything. It seems like I've tried everything and nothing is working at all. I'm in dire need of help.

Sorry to bump, but I feel I left out some focal information.

I will admit first hand that I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. In an attempt to upgrade to Snow Leopard, I tried to partition the main disk so I can just boot the install on that, but everything was grayed out and wouldn't let me. I stupidly thought I could put the ISO in the Restore section and assigned it on my disk.

So yeah, I bungled it. Hopefully that will help.

How are you trying to boot from the disc? Are you holding C? And it spits it out... but you can boot to the safe command line?

I can get to the command line, but it freezes. You can't type anything.
