VLC will play DivX without installing a bunch of crap as far as I know. I have a bunch of 90s cartoons my husband converted from tapes and he insisted on using some weird format rather than just QuickTime or something. He ended up using DivX and I play them in VLC without a hitch.

He's a Windows guy so he gets into all that weird time-consuming ****ering over his individual tools and stuff. Forgive his ignorance.

Well, firstly it's really hard to just find a Mac version to download (I probably don't know where to look) And then when I install it I have tried putting it in every possible file and it just never plays. It's getting pretty frustrating. Hope someone can help!
Thanks.

VLC for Mac OS X...

VLC media player for Mac OS X

Plays DivX out of the box, er... out of the DMG.
