Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
And if it's only just out of warranty, take it to Apple and see if they will fix it free anyway, or, ring Apple and work your way up the ranks to get it sorted with a pleasant manner.

Why do you have OSX 10.5.8? MacBook 5,1 came out with 10.6.1/2 installed. Deinstalling to a lower system may be your problem. I don't know if the 32-bit system that 10.5 uses can handle the right USB, as 10.5 came out on MacBooks when both USBs were on the left. Good luck.

Not sure if you have your info right . I am typing this on a Macbook 5,1 and I just up-graded to 10.6 as it did not come with it because SL wasn't even released for 6 months after I purchased my machine.
