Just giving you guys the heads up to sign up for the replacement battery that's available. I received it within a week from sending it out.

peace.

Never noticed mine really overheating but I always wanted a new battery anyways because it doesn't fit into the iBook like 100% since it feels like it's not properly pushed in so yay!

I do think that Apple should have made that recall notice a bit bigger on their main page. Plus, it probably does appear on the main page without scrolling down but since I'm on a 12" iBook with a 1024x768 resolution (as with many other Apple customers), I DO have to scroll down a bit before I see it. You would have thought that since it is a potentially hazardous situation, they would have thought about that.... Thanks to these forums, I found out about this.

I just realized that the newer battery fits better than my old one!! lol
My old battery was always a little bit big which i felt led to slant and now the new one leaves my ibook evenly balanced. I have never noticed any overheating issues and read about the complaints in regards to the overheating. Apple is protecting themselves from lawsuits.

I got my new battery also but haven't put it in my ibook yet. I noticed on my old battery the 6 hour battery life was really around 4.... I hope the new one actually gives 6 and yes Ive played with the power options

How do they do it, do they send the new one out and ask you to send the old one back, or insist on waiting for the old one before they'll send the new one? (I rely on my laptop for work..)

I have never really got more than 4 hours from my ibook battery. i think the 6 is an exaggeration from apple. it's probably based on having the screen turned off completely.

darn ok 4 will good to I got my new battery yesterday and the battery does not ran half as hot as my old one did. You can see a huge difference. My old one got so hot I could not put it on my lap at all. This one is cool and barely gets warm.

You fill in the form, if your eligable they will send you a new battery, using the box they send the new battery in you send the old battery back.

Throughout the process you will always have a battery you can use, weather it is the new or old one.

Hmm....I thought it says that you should immediately remove your current battery and temporarily use the Power Adapter until your new one arrives? But then it also says that if you must use it, then make sure you don't leave your iBook unattended and check for signs of overheating. Now which is it Apple!?! Lol

Anyways, I ordered mine on Wednesday and got mine on Friday! Had to spend quite some time recalibrating it though. UPS are coming on Tuesday to pick up my old battery.

They say that just for safety reasons, so if you leave it in and it does opverheat etc you can't blame Apple as they have advised you to not use it... Not that it stopped me from using mine

i never noticed overheating on my battery. I did take it out and use the AC but i was scared i was gonna damage the area where the battery usually sits. So what i did was i left the battery in and took out the AC adaptor when i left the computer unattended. The new battery is slightly slimmer than my old one and it seems to have a little less juice. of course it's still new and in the process of being conditioned.

Replace the word "safety" with the word "liability." Now you know why they tell you to remove it. :-)

I put my order in on Friday (27th). Since Monday was a holiday here in the US that may add a delay to my replacement's being shipped.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you have to send back your old one, even if you didn't notice anything wrong with it. Of course, I dunno what Apple could do if you didn't send it back though
