Any advice on things I should get along with it. Keep in miind I probably can't get them all at once, so if any need to be done up front that would be nice to know. Keep in mind I know very little about Apple products other than the quality of the hardware and software.

Will be used to run MS Office and internet access, with lightweight photo editing. And of course lots of iTunes.
This will be my only computer at home. It is replacing a 6 year old destop.

Two items which seem to get changed early on are Ram and HDs. One has to be technically competent to change HDs but for most Ram is fairly straight forward - so buy ram yourself ( more cheaply ) and have a shot - instructions are in the supplied user manual.
