i just recently bought a used g4 and the guy left his admin. password set up on the computer. i have no way to contact this guy again and can not load software onto this HD because of the password. how can i erase the password? i tried to just drag the HD to the trash but you need the password for that also...lol.

The only way i know, would require the os install cd or dvd. I would do a clean install of the os. I think you could use the install disc to change the admin password. I prefer to use the install disc to do a clean install!
Hope this helps!

boot from the panther install disc 1, click installer>reset admin password, thats it, to boot from the disc, insert it, shut down the mac, and start up, as soon as you hit the button for it to start up, hold down C on the keyboard, until you see the installer window.

...and given how easy it is to simply reset the password, this should make you think twice about the security of Unix. It's very secure over a network (like the internet), but not at all for somebody sitting in front of your computer.

Make sure to encrypt any data files you don't want anybody else seeing.
