![]() Mac Specs: Macbook Pro

Hello,
My Macbook Pro has been running really slowly for quite a while. Every once and a while I run Disk Utility and although it is able to repair permissions, sometimes it is unable to repair the disk - I get an error message. Whenever this happens, I reinstall Leopard and the MBP works quickly for a week or two and I am able to repair the disk with Disk Utility, but inevitably it starts slowing down, and finally Disc Utility is unable to repair the disc...so I reinstall again. This cycle has gone on for several months. When I run Techtool on it, is says I have four bad blocks. Is my hard drive failing? Any other ideas about what the problem might be or how to fix it? Thanks! |

I noticed typing in emails was slow yesterday so I ran verify disk permissions and disk verify.
The disk verify had 2 instances of file counts being off by one file and required the SL disc to repair. The disk permissions had this message when I ran verify permissions and then after I repaired permissions: ![]() Is this serious? Is my 18 month old hard drive on its way out? It is the original one that came with my MBP. Also, does anyone know what would cause errors like this? I'm not too familiar with the internal parts. |

Just about everyone running SL who installed the updates will have those on their system. |

My mac is running at normal speed most of the time, but applications stop responding on occasion. When one freezes, a few others follow suit. This tends to happen when I save files. I'm a programmer, so it happens a lot while I'm working (saving often) and takes 45 seconds to a couple minutes to come back.
TechTools says I have one bad sector, which I wouldn't have assumed to be a problem if these lockups were happening at the same time. I don't mean to thread-jack, but I would have posted my own thread with the same title... |
