I have a macbook pro 13 aluminum.

I plan on getting this external hd Western Digital - 1.5TB External USB 2.0, FireWire and eSATA Hard Drive - Black - WDH1CS15000N

It says it has firewire 400. I believe my macbook has firewire 800

Will firewire 400 still work with a firewire 800 port? I know I can use USB but I would rather use firewire since its faster

It wil work. You just need to get a firewire 400to800 cable. Which, in my WD Mybook 1TB box is not included, and cost around 10 dollars.

You're only going to get FW400 speeds, which probably won't make a difference.
