I'm just wondering, should I even bother installing an anti-virus on my MacBook? I googled this and it's been 50/50.

Did you try running a search on the forums about your question?

The short answer is no.

Yes if you care about not infecting Windows Users with viruses that don't effect Macs.

I wouldn't say you need it, but I do use ClamXav..

I recommend it. Again, while you don't really need it, it's always nice to have to run routine checks with.

You probably wont need it right now. However seeing that the Mac is gaining popularity it may come a time where Mac users also need to use anti-virus software. It is dangerous to be naive...

Unless you download random video players for pr0n sites, frequntly pirate photoshop, or enter your master password whenever a window asking for it comes up, you don't really have to worry. There have been a couple trojans for OSX, but they were always from questionable sources and required an admin (or master) password. The only other reason you would want an antivirus is if you run windows on any computers you computer frequently comes into contact with (i.e. on the same network or via boot camp).

Don't worry about birii and just let your Mac be and keep all AV well and truly away from your Mac. Have a read of this which still old is applicable now as it was when wrigtten and as suggested do a search. This questions is answered daily at least.

And if you do run Windows on Bootcamp download Microsoft Security Essentials to that partition.
