I have a DVD stuck in my iBook. The icon is visible but the disc won't come out using F12 or drag-icon-to-garbage or apple+E. The eject process starts but the disc can't come out and there's a loud noise like the disc is jamming into the inside of the case...

Had a tech guy look at it - he tried some other key-combos (don't know what exactly) to force it out and said the disc tray had probably shifted position inside. He said there's no point in taking the computer apart. Basically he said if I couldn't get any advice from mac forum users, I should get a new computer. Great

Does anyone know what's wrong and what to do? Any advice is much appreciated. It's been stuck there for months and I can't find any answers... I'm not a tech wiz myself so I hope someone who recognizes this problem will be kind enough to let me know...

Many thanks.

There should be a small hole on or near the DVD tray that you can use a paper clip to manually eject the DVD tray. Just insert the end of the paper clip in the hole gently and it will pop open if nothing is jammed.

If you've tried everything to get it out via software, and if the tray is out of alignment somehow, then the only way to remove the disk is by disassembling your iBook. If you're unable to do the work yourself, it may not be worth while to have it done by a technician since it might cost as much as the machine is worth. Why don't you go to the ifixit web site and look at their step by step instructions on how to replace the drive. Then decide.
