20ft Drop - MacBook- Hinge repair
Im trying to bring a 2008 Macbook back to life from a 20 foot drop.

anyone know where i can send out to get a diagnosis? and possible repair
microcenter and apple store bother want 800 just for screen

screen is shattered- ebay has for 75 to amazon's 125
hinge skewed - mean's everything to mobo has to be removed?

i have already taken out the screen, which is easy but i dont want to just buy a new, pay restocking and shipping when other parts turn out broken

    I'll be blunt.

You dropped a computer from a height of 20 feet.

    20.

    Feet.

The diagnosis is that even if you buy the parts and attempt to repair it yourself, it will cost you more to get it fixed that it will to simply buy a new computer.

    Doesn't change things.

It is still more labor and cost effective (not to mention more logical) for your friend to get another computer.

It just isn't worth fixing it at this point.

All these comments are right, it would cost much more to get it repaired than to buy a new computer of this same kind.

Your friends best bet is to part out the broken Mac on eBay and recoup some of the money from the sales to purchase another Mac.
There are plenty of people looking for Mac parts. Just look on this forum.

Despite what others are saying about not being worth it, hey if you wanna try, that's your own choice.

One thing you didn't mention is if the machine will even turn on any more? there might be a lot more damage. The hard drive also might not work from the shock..

It's actually quite impressive that the thing isn't in a million pieces!

    iMac late 2007 10.11.b4, iMac 2008 10.10.5, Macbook2007 10.7.5, Mac Mini 10.7.5, iPhone 3GS Note 8!!
Mostro has a excellent point and question. Does the machine work at all? 20' is a large drop for any computer leave alone notebook. Does it power on? Boot up?

I know the screen is broken but you can plug into an external monitor. I would be sure the rest of the machine is not shot before wasting $$$ on a display and hinges.

    Just a suggestion.

If it powers on then get a connector so u can hook up an external monitor to see if it still works. If it does then just replace the screen and get it from ebay not apple.

You need to send this to "Mythbusters" tv show.
A laptop dropped from 20 feet will still be operational.... "BUSTED!"
