A $99 superdrive that won't work with a powered hub ? Never knew such a chintzy product existed ! I'd follow the given advice and return that thing. Get a decent E-SATA DVD burner and housing for it for cheap on Heck.. you can get a Bluray burner for $150.

G'day and welcome to the forums mred.

Is your external superdrive mains powered? If not the demand for power might be just too much for the USB port. And a mains powered hub will be much better than a machine powered type. USB, even USB2, does not work that well with Macs which favour Firewire.

try a powered hub... i know if i hook my USB Thumb drives, keyboard, mouse and 2 ipods to an external USB hub, the ipods dont work because lack of power. When i plug the power adapter in, the issues go away.

    Just a thought...

    Going Galt...
The MBA Superdrive has screwy internals which require it to be connected the the MBA. They don't work on other Mac's either. You can hack the firmware or wiring to get around it, but it's not really worth it.
