Traveling to Peru

I will be traveling to Peru and would like to take my early 2009 MacBook (white unibody) to Peru. Can I use the same magsafe adapter in Peru that I use here in the States? I did check previous forum posts and apparently it will work in Europe provided you have the correct plug adapter but I found nothing regarding South America. Thanks.

Cant tell you particulars of the magsafe & Macbook but i have done some extensive travel and every country i have visited i have just used the appropriate plug adapter with any of my electrical equipment to power them without any problems what so ever.

If you are a little worried about it all, my suggestion would be to buy the best quality plug adapter you can just to be on the safe side.
Cheaper ones might have faulty wiring and connectors so the better quality the sfer you would be.

The plug adapters are made so you can safely use them in the country of your choice for the reason of feeling safe ...

cheers

Thank you. I assume the Apple store would have the plug adapters?

According to this site, they use a mix of outlets. Read down about 1/2 way down the page:

If you are going to get an adapter for your magsafe power adapter, get a 3-prong adapter so your Mac will be properly grounded.
And like tattoedmac stated, don't get a cheap adapter. They could do more harm than good.

Peru's Outlets are Two-Prong

I spent over 30 days in Peru last summer using the 2009 13" MBP. The magsafe adapter will work in virtually all of the outlets in Peru. The electrical wiring in Peru uses only two wires, so using a three-prong plug will not provide any grounding. I just used the two-prong plug that came with the magsafe adapter. Every hotel that we stayed at had American-style outlets as did all of my wife's relative's houses.

Thank you very much for your informative reply. We will be leaving in less than a week and will need to use my MacBook during our stay. It's good to know our stay should be problem free at least in terms of computer usage. Thanks again.
