another battery question

Hi! I have searched the other battery questions and nothing seems quite the same or to help my situation.

My problem is
- the icon says battery is not charging
- computer works fine with power supply connected however there is no light coming on (use to have green at full charge and orange till charge completed)
- the battery light on the actual battery has one green light (which I have read suggests the battery is not dead)

Macbook is now out of warranty by about 6 months (early 2008 model)

I am not *very* mac/laptop literate - this is my first Mac & I can use it to do what I need - but I have no idea how to check the battery charge cycles or anything so if anyone has a suggestion involving checking that could you please include how to's in your suggestions

thanks in advance

Hi Nick
the second link didnt work - but as I said I have searched the threads and nothing quite matched with my situation.

Currently even having it plugged into the power supply it is not turning on (stupid me unplugged it overnight worried about fire hazard! and didnt shut it down - so I guess it was using the reserve battery to load before using the power supply?)

There's only one apple store in my state and its about 3 hours drive away! I'm hoping to go to a reseller today and see if they will at least do a basic trouble shoot (let me try a different power supply/battery) to figure which might be the problem and hopefully its just one of those & I can replace it.

Just back from an apple reseller - they let me plug laptop in with a new power supply and suddenly it works!?

I didnt think the solution could be that simple especially since yesterday it only seemed to be running off the power supply but not charging the battery and in the morning it wouldnt switch on. So I'm not sure!

Anyway new power supply solved this problem for me!
