The only main difference between li-po and li-ion is that li-pos aren't just regular circular batteries put into a square shaped battery container like li-ions. Li-pos can take up pretty much any shape because it's layered into sheets, which lets it utilize the most space out of the battery compartment.
That's why almost all of the li-po batteries you see are square shaped, it's their must efficient shape.

I'm sure someone else can confirm my battery's type too, just look at the back of the battery, next to one of the logos, it will say, "Lithium Polymer", if you have the first gen uni mbp 15 that is...
You are correct, mine states quite clearly "Li-Ion" on the bottom of the battery.

I have some interesting info. for my battery. Notice the original battery capacity and current battery capacity. Let me know if my MBP's going to blow up or not. Lol.

Batteries are batteries - they die eventually.
I use LiPo batteries for my RC Helicopters - If I get about 100 cycles out of them then I am satisfied. They tend to peak at around 30 cycles, and flight times get shorter the more cycles they get, until it isn't worth charging them anymore.
Comprehensive analysis of battery performance in a laptop is fine - but in the end: Who cares?
Batteries will be effected by so many external factors, it is somewhat meaningless to compare battery lifespans without knowing the details. In the lab you get one result, but in the field you get something different. And all laptops are "in the field" and not in labs.
I've had LiPo batteries last 3 or 4 cycles and then puff up or stop taking a full charge. I've had 2200mAh packs that delivered 1500mA before the voltage dropped to the cut off point.
I think the assumption is this is an exact science - and, it isn't. Way too many variables to account for.

got some surprising news!
check this out...my stats went up to 100% again...as shown my coconut and istats. I think it might have just been a fluctuation between the charging times
