Mac Specs: powerbook g4
can't get the cd out of the drive

I recently changed my hard drive on my Powerbook. I was trying to reinstall the OS but for some reason i get a message that says bundled software can't be installed. Now I can't get the cd out of the drive. Is there a manual way to remove the cd without taking the powerbook apart.

Thank you for the help.

I've got a macbook so may not be the same solution. I turned it off then turned on while pushing the eject button. Worked for me. Hope it helps.

I had a Macbook too, so it might be slightly different, but hope this helps...

If it's slot-loading, there should be a little hole somewhere on the slot. Stick a paperclip in there, and the slot will pop out.

If it's integrated, try turning off the machine and rebooting while holding down the mouse button. If this doesn't work, the problem might be with the disc drive being out of alignment. This sounds a little unorthodox, but trust me, it's actually used by the Apple Geniuses. Stick a flathead screwdriver in the drive and try to pull the disc drive back into alignment so the disc doesn't eject into the side of the case.

Good luck.

I have the same thing happen to me - a lot.
I used to put paper labels on my DVD disks and the paper label makes the disk too thick for the MacBook DVD and they get stuck. Not only did they get stuck, they wouldn't play.
I had to disassemble the case, unscrew and lift out the DVD drive, then short out two pins on the front of the DVD assembly to get it to eject the disk when the power was on.
What a pain.
I wouldn't try to pry the disk out of the drive unless you want to buy a new DVD drive.
I have had some luck with sticking a flat head screw driver into the slot and ejecting the disk - if you are smooth and lucky, it will eject far enough to grab it and pull it the rest of the way out. But that only works if the OS "sees" the disk and you can eject it.

Now, I am ultra careful about the disks I plug in - I don't even plug in CDs with paper labels - just in case.
