    hard drive clicking very loudly
    Hi all,

My macbook started 'clicking' very loudly about 15 mins ago. I am slightly worried due to the volume of the clicking (I'm well aware the hard drives will make noise occasionally). I did a(nother!) back up using time machine and restarted but the noise is still there. How many, and which programs I run have no effect.

Need I worry at all or is it just doing stuff 'behind the scenes'?

Cheers in advance for any advice/help,
    Stef

Clicking (more than warranted for processing files) is imminent failure. Good move to back up your data.

Check your activity monitor as well to see if you're actual doing hard drive intensive work. If not, time to ring Apple Care or shop for a new hard drive.

Hi Deus, thanks for your reply. I've checked activity monitor but don't really know what to look for. Which screen set should I be looking at? I'll get on it and take a screen shot of it and post it here.

I agree. Loud clicking coming from the hard drive is never a good thing and is usually a sign of a dying hard drive. Make sure that everything you want to keep is backed up.
