the price is really up. I remember paying $58 for a set of sticks in July. Now it's like $84. Must be connected to the price of gold I guess. Not so cheap anymore in any event.

Perhaps you are comparing DDR2 800 MHz RAM for the older MBPs to the DDR3 1067 MHz RAM needed for the newest models. The price on DDR3 has dropped considerably from where it was a while back.
