Sound is not going through the internal speakers. Cannot even change the volume for the sound output. Went to the system preferences/sound and in the output tab the only option is "digital out". The sound only works when i plug in headphones. but when i take them out the sound becomes unavailable again. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

Do you have a red light on showing from inside of your headphone output jack? It may be that your sound circuitry is stuck in digital mode. Try using a strong toothpick to wiggle around inside of the headphone jack to see if you can get it to switch back out of digital mode. BTW, this is a common problem.
