    Kernal panics and/or GPU issue
    Hello all,
I have a 2.2gHz MBP that suddenly has developed issues. It's a 2007 model with the nVidia gpu. I think it's kernel panicing but I'm not too sure. I've reloaded, disk utilitied and it keeps telling me to restart.

    Restart screen

Here's what it looks like when I use the Leopard disc to boot. I booted from disc to use disk utility which worked once then it freezes after it boots from the disc. Notice the vertical lines after it froze. When I try to boot from the disc now, sometimes it will start and other times the screen will flash, show vertical lines, and freeze. I have tried resetting the PRAM as well.

Can anyone tell me if this is a result of the defective nVidia graphics processors or not? If it is it should be covered regardless of Apple Care correct? There was supposedly a Technote regarding these defects. If someone has the link to this document it would be appreciated as well.

    Thanks

Looks like it could well be. Warranty was extended to three years on the 8600M GT.

Thanks bobtomay. Let's hope that it's covered otherwise I'll have a very nice paper weight. I have a reservation with the Genius Bar tonight so we'll see what the have to say. I'll post up the results afterwards.

Well I had the genius at the Genius bar have a look and indeed it was the GPU/logic board so it was free!!! I asked if it was going to be the same board because if it was I was just going to sell it when I got it back. The boards they are putting in have the same chipsets but are apparently put together properly and have a "rev.2" designation.
