MacBook - Hard drive won't show up on desktop or filesystem but does appear in disk utility

I was having an issue with my external hard drive and couldn't find a solution anywhere.

I have an external hard drive (seagate hd, wd enclosure) that i have been using with my pc. The drive is formatted to NTFS, and i installed macfuse with NTFS-3g on my mac so that i can write to it. Everything worked fine and i could move files to my pc, however once i tried putting files onto the drive from the pc and plugging the drive back into my mac it no longer shows up on the desktop or filesystem. The odd thing is the drive still shows up in disk utility.

i played around with formatting the drive to see if i could get around this problem, but no luck. any ideas? thanks
