Hi, I bought my first ever Mac on the 5th August a 17" MBP and I love it

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP52.008E.B05
SMC Version (system): 1.42f4

However lastnight I noticed something strange ..... my screen seems to have strange red/orange dots jumping around on the grey's.

Im just uploading a video now that I will post up soon.

I only really noticed this lastnight but it doesnt look right to me. It only seems to be on certain grey colours on my screen, the rest seem to be fine.

What do you think ???

Thanks J

Appears to be some sort of interference. Any kind of electronic equipment operating nearby? Doctor's medical equipment, X-Ray machine, RF transmitter, etc. ?

Have you tried moving the machine to another location to see if the same problem is duplicated?

Regards.

There isn’t anything new in the house that could be causing interference .... That I now about.

What’s really strange is that I just opened a grey scale chart in PS and it only does it with one certain shade of grey ..... no other colours. The pictures above are from when I had silver efex open and the window is that colour so it’s really bad. I get a bit on my desktop image as well, but other than that the screen looks fine.

Shouldn't be doing this though ... should it ??

If you cannot figure out the problem...since you just purchased it August 5th...might be time to take it to your Apple Store & take advantage of the warranty.

Looks like I might have to

Another bad pic but you can see its only doing it on one shade. The film above shows how fast the dots are.

Also these pics are life size. Ive not zoomed in on the image.

Does it do this in certain programs only?...what happens if you quit all programs & go to the desktop?

I would take it into the Genius Bar if you are not positive that it is an issue (and since it only comes up at certain times, the software they run may not be able to establish what is wrong).

If you KNOW for sure that something is wrong, I would send it in for repair.

Call up Apple and talk to the person on the phone, they will go step through step on what to do. Ask them questions, that is what they are for.

But it is all the time. If I open the greyscale image its there and the desktop image im using at the min has a small amount of this all over it.

Are you saying I shouldnt take it to the Genius bar tomorrow ?? If its broken then id want a new one not a repair. Ive only had it 21 days.

I went to the Apple store tonight and showed them the screen ........ they had no idea what was wrong with it but even though 5 days over the 14 day return date they gave me a brand new machine !!!!

This is my first Mac and TBH ive never had such a good buying / customer service experience with any other company.

Time to install my Snow Leopard disc that came this morning

Very very glad to hear you got a new machine!!!

Apple really does have great customer service...and it's always great to hear positive outcomes!!! Because (unfortunately sometimes)...folks can be more "eager" to share negative outcomes than positive ones.

Again good for you!!!

- Nick

p.s. Can we assume all is well with the replacement computer?

Fantastic customer service. The dots on the screen wernt as visible in the store because of the really bright lights, but they said thats its not right to have spent that much money and it not be perfect so I can have a new machine !!!!

They emailed me the receipt and linked my extended Apple care to the new one.

Who else would do that ..... PC World lol I dont think so

Ive installed SN and put all my work back on the new one and its perfect. Here's to many happy years of Mac
