Okay everyone, I have a Santa Rosa (Plastic) Macbook that I bought in February of 2008. Considering I have been traveling so much this summer, I stored my macbook in my closet for about two months on a 0 % charge (with the battery still in the notebook). As things are finally winding down, I took my Macbook out 3 days ago, booted it up, and noticed one quite odd thing, the battery was staying at a 0 % charge, and was not charging at all. The computer was powered up with the magsafe, but the moment it was pulled out, the computer would immediately shut off. I decided to let the issue rest and go to sleep that night. When I woke up, my Macbook wasn't even registering that there was a battery in it (before that, the status in the profiler was "Check Battery"). The battery only has 79 cycles, so I don't understand why this is happening. Does anyone have a quick solution for this? The closest Apple store is and hour away, during the day tommorow is booked up, and I have to meet a client tommorow night to start a proposal, and I will NEED the battery for that. Thanks for all the help in advance and I'm sorry for the huge wall of text =).

-Eric

Any help appreciated!

Never store a battery for two months with a zero charge on it. That's a good way to ruin it. Let's hope your battery is just "sleeping". Try resetting the System Management Controller to see if it will start charging again. See the following Apple KB article: Link

If that doesn't work you might have to replace the battery. Since your machine is no longer in normal warranty, and Apple care does not cover the battery, a new battery is going to be on you.

Regards.

Darn. That sucks, I had a feeling, I know it's not a good idea to leave the battery in it, and I thought I would only be storing it for a few days. You think that Apple might replace it because it has only 79 cycles (Ex: They might say its defective)?

Also, sorry for the double post but, which of those should I do, because I have an Early 2008 Macbook, but they both say Late 2008 Macbook?

I don't think so..and besides...you know it was your fault...so don't try to rip of Apple! As companies go...Apple is pretty darn good to their customers!

Accept this as a somewhat expensive lesson...and just get a new battery.

Well thanks guys, I'm going to order a battery first thing tomorrow. After I replace the battery can I buy AppleCare so that I am covered if anything else happens or do you have to buy it right when you purchase the computer?

applecare will cover the COMPUTER within three years of purchase.
I'm pretty sure it excludes consumables such as batteries.
they usually do.

Waiting for the game that takes full advantage of a 124bit, 3.5GHz, 8-core, 64Gig-RAM system.

There is another item here - Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters - that you may wish to check. See additional info on item 3

Correct...warranty does not cover batteries. Batteries are considered consumables.

Unless it can be proven that a battery is defective (it could happen)...batteries are not covered.
