I can't figure this out. Is it a problem with the trackpad? is it some sort of virus / trojan? Cursor on screen will randomly move around when no mouse is connected and no fingers are touching trackpad and right click and add a new folder. I've turned off wireless, unplugged from router, turned off wireless mighty mouse, disabled bluetooth and the problem still persists. I tried disabling trackpad through command line to no avail (Enable/Disable Trackpad on New MacBook | Laughing Means A Lot To Me) What's up? I'm running 10.5.8, 2ghz and 4gb memory. Problem started a couple days ago after installing updates, shutting down computer for a day and moving to a new apartment. When i booted up, verified my wireless was working and started browsing internet (email/facebook) the problem started. It makes the trackpad almost useless which made me think it was a trackpad issue. But since i haven't been able to successfully disable the trackpad, i wasn't sure if that's the culprit or if something else is going on. Ideas?

however, if you are trying to figure out where the issue comes from. if you have any other OS. such as windows, go and try to see if the mouse has the same problem there. if it has, I could say it is a hardware issue, however if not. I'd reinstall mac os x from its dvd to get rid of any unwanted trojans, plugins,... |

You don't give any details or which MacBook you have or which version of the OS you have or if you have all the latest updates. But the first thing to do is make sure you have all the updates possible for your Mac. There was a firmware update to correct some trackpad issues for MacBooks and MacBook Pros a while back About the MacBook, MacBook Pro Trackpad Firmware Update 1.0 External hard disk acquisition addict - but admitting the problem is the first step to a robust backup Please use the reputation system if you think you've been helped - top right of this post |

I know this is a really old thread, but I am having the same problem. Googling the issue gives me MANY MANY pc results, which worries me in and of itself, since I own macs to avoid pc problems. Has anyone found a definitive answer to what causes this?
I don't use a mouse. It is independent of a particular program or whether or not I'm connected to the internet. I have WATCHED the cursor not respond at all to trackpad input AND watched it move on its own, when my hand was nowhere near the computer. It's not accidental input. It seems to occur more often when waking from sleep/screen sleep. I've zapped the PRAM, given it 18GB of free space in memory and cleared away the strange things I didn't need anyway (airport base station-don't have & some HP printer garbage that was running in the background). A strange thing I don't like lately is how I can hit spacebar to wake from sleep, get the screen back in a time I expect, then it will go dark again for an annoying amount of time and then come back when it's ready. (By then, I've forgotten what I came for anyway.) I don't think it only occurs at these times, but it does seem more often to happen then.I am convinced that the trackpad is physically fine and strongly suspect an intermittent software issue. I have a PowerBook Pro G4, running 10.5.8. Can anyone help? Many thanks in advance, Pen |

My roommate is having the exact same issue. 4g ram, 2.26 ghz duo, Mac OSX 10.6.6, White Macbook unibody, late 2009 model.
Trackpad issues exactly as mentioned above. Also, the screen also fades and flickers. After it freezes, the screen starts to minimize and fade. After tapping the trackpad, it goes away. Someone has to have a fix for at leas the trackpad issues... Anyone? |
