I'm planning on getting the cack LCD cover for the macbook pro, then cutting (instead of an apple) something else into it. In my case I'm using a logo for a dj company then selling it to the owner. My questions are 1) are there any lcd covers that i can buy without the apple? 2)What would be the best way to cut it? 3)Has this been done before? Thanks for all the help in advance.
BTW It's Not the new MacBook pro it a model A1211 |

Sounds like you really want to customize your laptop...so I don't want to say you shouldn't do it.
But consider that after you modify it (a possible irreversible modification)...the laptop may be much less valuable. Then when you want to sell your current laptop in order to upgrade to a newer & more capable Apple laptop in the future, you won't get as much cash from the sale of your old laptop in order to purchase your new one. Just something to consider, - Nick |

It would detract from the value for the simple fact that it is what you like. Not everyone would share your enthusiasm. I would not buy an Apple machine with a custom logo.
If you want to do it you could use a laser cutter of some sort. I have seen threads where people carve Apple logos into non-Apple machines and it looked pretty darn good. You need the right tools, or you will botch the job. Last edited by JohnCL; 08-15-2009 at 01:15 AM. |

#2) How wouldn't it be valuable?...it is very very unlikely someone else will think your customizations are interesting...at least interesting enough to pay full value for the laptop. But more realistically...they would pay much less for it. AND for the people that would like your customizations...they may not need a new computer when you're selling it. For example...let's say a female laptop owner paints her laptop "Hot Pink"...and covers it with all sorts of "Hello Kitty" logos & graphics. How many "dudes" do you think will be interested in this laptop. NOT MANY! There may not even be that many females that would be interested in it!!! #3) Your answer to this one is very very funny!!!... "I don't want a new one I like mine and there's no reason to upgrade." I've been messing around with Macintosh computers for 23 years! Are you REALLY going to tell me that you're going to continue using this laptop for 23 YEARS...OR MORE...without upgrading!!! I would bet within 2-3 years you will WANT or NEED a new laptop!!! Just my humble opinion's...if you want to customize your laptop go for it...it's your computer! - Nick |
