MacBook - Will this be a real problem later on??

Recently, my palmrest area cracked so I got it fixed (the whole front panel incl. the keyboard) out of warranty. But the guy at Apple told me that somehow water was in the macbook and he said, it won't be a problem now, but it will eventually stop working.. and asked me $1000 to fix it. Well, I obviously didn't do it but now I'm worried that it might break down on me all of sudden during my university. Should I be worried
