Just interested to see what is the max limit for a 1.33GHz 12" PB
Also, is the standard ram which comes with the machine built in and cannot be removed, as some people have told me this??

There is 256mb soldered onto the motherboard that you can't mess with

The only expansion is the one slot which can handle up to a 1gb chip which gives your max ram a total of 1.25 gb

Yep the standard configuration is 256 soldered to the motherboard and a 256 MB stick in the expansion slot.

You can upgrade to 1,25 GB as trpnmonkey has said.

The 15" and 17" models have 2 expansion slots with a maximum RAM ceiling of 2GB. You could theoretically put 2,25GB in there, but I think that a 32bit architecture only supports a maximum RAM of 2GB...

Apt: I recall 32bit architecture limits you to 4gb total. I don't think you can have 2.25gb in the 15/17" due to physical limits. If memory serves, there is no onboard RAM on those models, there is a stick of 256 shipped in one of the two slots.

My question is, IF a 2gb pc2700 so-dimm stick was manufactured, would it work in the 12" and above? Or would some significant modifications to the Open Bios be required?

deep-blue: if 32-bit architecture allows 4GB, how come the PowerMac G4 MDD supports only 2GB, though it has 4 slots, and can take 1GB sticks, which are fully recognised?
My actual config is 1x512MB plus 2x256MB. I once had a 1GB stick from a friend, for testing, and after putting it in, it recognized the full 2GB of memory. Unfortunately, I couldn't test a config exceeding 2GB, by lack of memory modules...

But concerning the PowerBook, you're right, only the 12" has 256MB on board, so the maximum for 15" and 17" would be 2GB (which seems to be the maximum for a G4 anyway).
