Hi. For the last few months, every video I play online lags, including youtube videos. This even occurs when I have very few or even just one other app open (such as Mail). I don't imagine every single video is in HD, especially those that are just interviews or speeches.

I have 111.67 GB capacity and 93.6 GB available. Profile says "Used: 18.06 GB used on disk." But still, 93.6 GB avail seems sufficient to me.

Watching DVDs is not a problem. But online, everything lags, freezes -- either video, audio, or both.

I first noticed it trying to watch streaming videos at hulu, but then observed it with all sorts of videos online as well -- as mentioned, even simple youtube vids. I will note that the entire computer has slowed of late, but this streaming issue had been a problem for months prior.

Has something happened to the speed of all videos in the last half-year that makes G4 owners suddenly upset? Or is there something I can/should do to my machine ("Junk it" not being a desirable option).

Thanks to those offering suggestions

Has to do with how the flash player is optimized. My old 1.67ghz G4 Pbook had a heck of a time playing you tube videos (maxed out ram and hd).

I was told by a friend that they simply don't put the effort in making good code for PPC models these days, and that's why they stutter playing any flash based videos.

Only suggestion I have is to max out the memory and make sure you have the latest flash player.

Online videos lag for me as well, but if I save them with DownloadHelper they play just fine in MPlayer or VLC.

There is no system but GNU and Linux is one of its kernels.

as noted by others .. I also have the lag issues with any online video's
with 1.33 1gb mem iBook.. it is the flash video player that will cause it ..
FireFox helps but not much .. Divx is fine .. vlc plays them as Kahlil88 suggests

but other than that need more Power...

Well, sounds like its the reality of having a G4 then. I did upgrade the Flash Player as was suggested, which improved viewing of youtube vids, but they are still choppy.

I will consider everyone's other suggestions as well, but I don't believe I can drag hulu vids into an independent player, so I gather I'm out of luck there. (If anyone knows how to how that, though, I'm all ears.)

Thanks to all for your timely responses and thoughts. No lagging on your part!

Cheers,

fireape,

Unfortunately HULU is out .. I have been searching for weeks.. months
actually and there is not a way to get them downloaded right now.. there
has been talk of a paid program that does it .. but I will not pay for it when
most things that work are free .. like Downloadhelper and I have not been
able to find testimonials that these paid programs actually work sorry .. I'm
not any help here .

I guess the only thing would help is a faster processor .. but you can't just
swap out the processor.
