Until I restarted it. The system begins to load and gets about 3/4 of the way through and a blue screen appears. From there all that is seen is the pointer arrow (which re-appears and disappears every so often) and the scrolling gear (re-appearing and disappearing as well).

After I initally dropped it everything really seemed fine and I breathed a sigh of relief. One of my programs wasn't working properly a few hours later so I restarted and this happened.

The funny, or not so funny, thing is that I was just going to back-up all of my photos (I just had a baby 4 months ago) and never got a chance. I'm PRAYING that I didn't lose everything, or I will be an absolute wreck. I'm hoping that since everything WAS working that it's just a motherboard issue and not hard drive.

I'm dropping my laptop off at the apple store tonight...the phone IT dept couldn't really do anything and I didn't want to chance losing anymore info by attempting to re-install things by myself.

Does anyone have any suggestions...or positive thoughts here?? LOL

Hopefully the built in "sudden motion detector" protected your hard drive from damage, however, your description does make it appear hard drive related.

If the hard drive did suffer some damage it may be possible for the technician at the Apple store to extract your data from the drive. It all depends on how bad it is. Sorry I can't give you any more encouraging news... but procrastinating about making a backup always seems to come back to haunt you. I've done the same thing myself.

Good luck on the repair. I hope you get all your new baby's pictures off the hard drive.

Regards.

I would run the Apple Hardware Test. It's on the OSX DVD that came with your machine. On Intel Macs you usually hold down the D key right after the startup sound and keep it down till you see the Apple Hardware Test loading. Once in the test run the advanced test. It should tell you if there is any damage to your hard drive from the drop.
