![]() Mac Specs: 17" Macbook Pro Unibody 2.66 Ghz and Powerbook G4 1.67 GHz 2.0GB RAM

Hi,
I went through the 32 page sticky before posting this, but I didn't really find much on the new 17" macbook pros so I am asking here. I was hoping someone has had the same experience as I had with my old powerbook and could give me some insight on if the problem still exists with the new Macbooks. I have a powerbook G4 and after about 2 months of using it the sweat from my wrists absolutely destroyed the two spots next to the trackpad. The people at the apple store said there was some chemical in my skin that had eaten through the titanium, so I should pick up the marware protection pack, which I did and it worked out for me. But the new macbooks are supposedly aluminum so wondering if the same issue persists. So, I just got a new Macbook Pro 17" Unibody "Aluminum" yesterday and I wanted to pick up the trusty Marware Leatherette wrist rest and keyboard cover package that I had for my old Powerbook G4 in case it does still have this issue. They aren't available at the apple store, but I found this link: Silicone Protection Pack But this one doesn't look like it covers the whole area where my wrists would rest/sweat... There is another product they sell which looks almost exact the same as the one I had for the powerbook here: Protection Pack Deluxe for MacBook Pro 17" But I am wondering if this one is only for the late model macbook pro and not for the newer unibody with larger track pad. Also of concern is the way the new macbook pro closes. There isn't much space between the screen and the wrist rest anymore, so I am wondering if this solution will even work without damaging the screen or keeping the macbook from closing correctly. Does anyone have either of these products that can give me some advice? Thanks Last edited by jdgti; 06-04-2009 at 05:22 PM. |

I don't have either of these products, but if your PB was a 1.67Ghz,it was an aluminum cased computer, the titanium laptops are much older/slower. Also, if only two months corroded your case--you must have some pretty corrosive sweat! I've had my G4 since '05 with only needle-size specks on the trackpad area.
Both computers you're asking about are both anodized aluminum--though definitely possible, I doubt apple's changed anything in their anodization process. Personally i've always hated those thick vinyl 'protectors' - they're ugly and get sweat all over the screen when the lid is closed. I'd look around on eBay for the clear stick-on protectors, similar material to what's used for screen protectors, unless you like the vinyl. Last edited by pianodavid; 06-05-2009 at 11:31 AM. |
