Hello,
When I first purchased my Macbook Pro it seemed to run just fine, no problems whatsoever. Then a few months ago I began to notice that the fans were running louder and longer, and that the computer seemed to be a bit hotter than normal. Well it has progressively gotten worse. Now I can have just one webpage open (and that's ALL I'm doing on the computer) and the fan will be running at 5000+ RPM with a temperature of 75+/- C (per SMCfancontrol). What could be causing this? Should I bring it in the the Mac store? Is there anything I can do on my own? I Can't think of anything in particular that I downloaded that would be using a ton of CPU, is there a way to check? But even if something was using a lot of CPU 5000RPM at 75 degrees C seems excessive! Thanks in advanced for any help on this issue, I'm beginning to worry I could be doing damage to the computer, fans, or both. Mike |

What you are going to do first is to open up Activity Monitor on your mac. There you can see all running processes and find out if you have any of those taking up a lot of CPU time.
Also check the support site at Apple to see if you can find a firmware upgrade, i think there was a firmware upgrade that would address some fan issues. But it should have been downloaded with software update. EDIT: Seems like I was right, Apple just recently released a firmware upgrade. Check this one out: MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.3 You could also check out this guide: Slow Mac Performance Last edited by Strukt; 06-01-2009 at 04:36 PM. |
