Hello all,
I'm having a really tough time repairing my Macbooks 13" lcd. It started with a crack. I ordered a new LCD from a local shop and began installing it when it came in. I followed the directions at ifixit.com to a "T". However, after putting everything back together and turning it on, I was faced with a completely dark screen. I assumed that I had damaged the inverter while doing the work. Hoping that I had merely not plugged a cable in completely, I took the MB apart again and checked everything. After putting it back together, the screen wouldn't display anything at all. I couldn't see anything if I shined a flashlght in it.

I don't think that the logic board is at fault because I plugged in an S-Video adapter and it worked on my TV perfectly.

So I bought a new display data cable and installed it and it works--sort of. When I use a HDD with windows installed, I can see the desktop (without any backlight) except that it's halfway off the screen. With Windows, the S-Video adapter won't work, but I'm assuming that's a driver issue of some sort.

On the left half of the screen, I can see half of the windows desktop and on the right it's just solid blue. When I try to use an OSX HDD, I get the same thing except I can't even see the desktop.. just two blue squares.

So what do you think that this could possibly be? It is getting extremely frustrating.

Plug it in to your TV and boot in to OSX then plug in a USB mouse and close the macbook. Then wake to mac from sleep with the mouse and you should the desktop on the TV only. It may work or may not but it is worth a try for sure!

OS X does work with the TV. Funny thing is, to me it seems like it's a driver problem. I've experience many of these in Windows but never in OS X. I'm not sure what's going on.

What is the possibility that the LCD that I got is just a bad one?

So I think I figured out what's going on. I opened 'er back up and took a look at the display connector on the logic board. Looks like a few of the pins toward the front side are bent in a little. I attempted to bend these back out very carefully but couldn't because they are tiny.

In your experience, am I looking at a new logic board or is there any way to replace the connector?

Use a magnifying glass and flat eyelash tweezers to straighten the pins the best you can. Otherwise you're looking at a new logic board. Since the connector is surface mounted it can not be replaced by ordinary means.

Regards.
