My MacBook Pro hisses whenever I plug speakers or even earphones in. I recently just purchased a set of the iHome speakers as available on Apple's web site (primarily for my iPhone), and thought I'd give them a try in the laptop, but the hissing is unbearable. Oddly enough if I turn off Airport they start making a screeching sound, too.

Any thoughts on where I can start looking to remedy this? I've tried moving the laptop away from possible sources, but to no avail, so I'm guessing it's something internal.

Thanks for your thoughts....

Since the problem is consistent across different speakers, it almost certainly is a hardware problem. You may need a new logic board. Call Apple or take it to an Apple Store. Hopefully you are under warranty still.

Standing request for all troubleshooting: Please provide your Mac model/year and OS version. Also advise us if you have used or installed any antivirus, security, or "cleaning" software on your Mac. If you have installed MacKeeper in particular, you are hereby advised to uninstall it.

Thanks, lifeisabeach, I was thinking that was probably the case... indeed it is still under warranty.
