option 1 will cost around $1800AU
option 2 will cost around $2100AU
which do u think wud be a better choice...i'm not like hella rich or anything and i wanna know if it's worth the extra dough for DDR3 SDRAM and if it will make the performance all that much better
i will mainly be using the macbook for just browsing the net, downloading music, watching movies, a bit of photo/music/video editing as well [no crazy gaming or anything lol]
p.s. also fill me in with the various cons of each macbook [i heard the new macbook has a crap screen and i heard the shell on the white 1 cracks really easily...even from day to day usage]
The faster RAM is great. But the Ali macbook has a much better screen and is built very well. For me I would get the Ali MacBook as they are so much better.

here is plan c. buy the aluminum, forget about hard drive size and ram. go to newegg.com (links posted below) and buy a seagate 500GB hard drive and 4gb memory. this will allow you to get you laptop much cheaper and much better. This should be a simple task to do.

I just got my new aluminum macbook on thursday of last week. So... 5ish days ago. I can say from my experience...
"What are those people talking about, this screen is fantastic." As far as the screen is concerned, it blows an LCD out of the water. It doesn't stack up as well as the pro's, but it's still delicious.
I got mine refurbished, and can say that not only was it worth the $1208US that I paid for it and to have it shipped to me over night, but that I think it was a steal. This is a sleek machine, and a beauty. Set tap to click and never look back. I love not having the mouse button (because who uses anything but tap to click anyway). Gestures are fairly straight forward (though some more useful than others). I say go aluminum. More durable, faster RAM, will stay sexy for a long time to come.
i choose seagate for a reason. the warranty is longer, they last longer, and i have had few problems with the heavly used drives. Western digital drives have too many problems. When i service computers i will not buy a western digital drive for anyone no matter how much i hate them. also, seagate is the cheapest, most of the time

Well everyone has their own preferences for a reason. I think you just had very bad luck with the WD drives.
I also prefer Seagate, because they use less energy and are generally faster than WD drives.
