MacBook - help with audio built ins

for some reason ever since i used headphones, the audio doesnt work.
when i try and change volume i get this:

Hmm. Have you looked in system preferences at the sound options?

yeah i didnt really know what to look for though.

i looked for settings, like if something was in an "off mode" or something..
but i couldnt find anything that made a difference.
