My problem:
I have taken the best possible care to maintain the cleanliness of my black Macbook. It seems that all of a sudden parts of the computer are turning red. No matter what I wipe the surface with, nothing comes off. It is mostly where my hands rest on the keyboard, but also near the edge of the screen. Does anyone have any advice as to what I can do to get these horrible stains off?

I have attached a picture of it. The way the light hits the surface, it looks a lot worse than it really is. The red isn't that bright, only when the light shines on the surface.

Thanks is advance!

Some folks have a greater amount of acidity in their skin - hands - fingers, etc. Looks like you probably need to wear gloves when you use your machine. Unless there was some kind of defect with the black case of your machine, I would say the discoloration was probably inflected by you.

Regards.

Believe it or not, oil and acid from our fingers can be very detrimental to certain components used in electronics and plastics. As I replied to the OP, some folks have more oil and acid on their skin than others. My daughter is a good example - she wears the letters off a computer keyboard in 3 or 4 months.

Regards.

Yeah, me too. All of my keyboards look 5 yrs old in a matter of 2-3 months and on a few of them, I've actually had the keys discolor. Meanwhile my wife, who types threefold as much as I do, has never worn the letters off a keyboard. Her current primary one here at the house is over 5 years old and still looks brand new.

This is one of the reasons I really love the backlit keys of my MBP. 28 months, and I'm just now starting to see some wear of the finish on the keys.

I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.
