Hey everyone! My HP laptop committed suicide on friday, I had to have a laptop for one of my hybrid online/in class classes. I've been so mad at microsft and other companies so much that I started saving up money to buy a mac. I have had awesome experiences with all my apple purchases so far. I own an pod 30gb video, ipod mini, ipod nano 2nd gen, ipod nano-chromatic, and a new iphone 3G, now i can add a new Macbook Pro 15.4" 2.4ghz to my arsenal
It was kind of expensive, but I am so happy to finally leave vista...
F U vista I love my mac

Well, if the HD is still good in the old PC (hopefully it's not what choked) - you can take it out, get an external enclosure, then hook it up via usb or firewire.

If the old laptop drive is a sata drive -

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=2783&name=2.5-eSATA-Hard-Drive-Enclosure&Nav=|c:2781|&Sort=0&Recs=10

if it's a pata drive -

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=2782&name=2.5-PATA-Enclosure&Nav=|c:2781|&Sort=0&Recs=10

There are plenty of options depending on what features you want and how much you want to spend

OOPS!! I just noticed that i posted this in the wrong area. I probably should have posted it under the Switcher hangout area. Sorry mods, you can move it if you want. I was planning on buying the a-sata external case from tiger but I am not completely sure if the hard drive went or if the motherboard went out and is somehow now one of the hard-drives on(there are 2). I don't feel like spending money to diagnose it, but will try the external case method. I just thought there was something else that i didn't know about. thanks

Iew, if it's two hard drives and they were Raid 0 (Striped) - and one of the HD's failed, you're pretty much out of luck. If they were Raid 1, or just two hd's in the system that appeared as Drive C and Drive D (or whatever for the second letter if the dvd drive took D) then you might have better luck (assuming if 2 separate drives not in raid that the drive that failed wasn't the drive with all of your data)
